Ceramic Tile
Denver & Colorado Springs Ceramic tile flooring & wall tile
AVAILABLE PRODUCTS
Ceramic wall tiles are normally less durable than tile designed specifically for flooring. Most wall tile is glazed with a semigloss or matte surface. The glazed surface has a very low slip resistance and becomes slippery when wet. Therefore, glazed wall tile is much more suited for wall or countertop applications than for floors.
These tiles, glazed or unglazed, have sufficient strength, impact resistance, and abrasion resistance to withstand weight and foot traffic. They are usually thicker, denser, and heavier than wall tiles.
Porcelain tile is a dense material, which makes it nearly impervious to wear, and is a perfect choice for both residential and commercial projects. In addition, porcelain tile is less porous and less prone to moisture or stain absorption, keeping maintenance to a minimum.
CERAMIC TILE CHARACTERISTICS
Like other natural products, tiles will vary in shading. This adds to the beauty and design of the product. When choosing a tile, it's best to view two or three tiles together to visually determine the overall appearance of the tile.
Tile comes in various sizes from as small as 2x2 to as large as 16x16. The size of tile depends on its application.
Features of glazed and unglazed tiles:
Glazed Tiles:
Most glazed tiles are not suited for heavy commercial installations. They are generally suited for light residential to light commercial use. Glaze offers manufacturers the ability to produce an unlimited array of beautiful colors and designs. The nonporous glaze creates a smooth surface that is practically stainproof.
Unglazed Tiles:
Unglazed tiles are the workhorses of the industry. They are generally thicker and denser than glazed tiles. Some common types are quarry tiles and porcelains. The tough inlaid qualities of most unglazed tiles make them ideally suited for, but not limited to, extra-heavy commercial installations.
Pros
- Long lasting: Ceramic, when installed and maintained properly, will last for the life of your home.
- Low maintenance: Ceramic cleans easily with a neutral floor cleaner.
- Virtually unlimited designs: Ceramic offers a wide variety of looks, colors, and patterns.
- Stands up to high traffic: Extremely durable, ceramic is an excellent choice for high-traffic areas.
- Great investment: Although ceramic is harder to install than other flooring, it is an investment that pays off, increasing the value of your home.
Cons
- May chip or crack: Ceramic tiles' hardness makes them susceptible to chipping or cracking from impact.
- Hard, unforgiving surface: Ceramic is not easy on breakable objects or muscles and joints. Plates and glass may break, knees and elbows may bruise from falls, and standing on a very hard floor can cause muscle fatigue.
- Colder perception: Ceramic may feel cooler to the touch than other floor types in low-temperature environments.
