YOUR CERAMIC TILE INSTALLATION Ceramic is a wonderful product in that most ceramic tile has a non-porous surface and is nearly impervious to abrasion. In choosing Guy's Floor Service, you have selected the best for your ceramic tile installation. Here are a few points to be aware of regarding your ceramic tile installation. YOUR SUBFLOOR: Tile is a heavy, brittle product. A strong stable surface is required under your ceramic tile. If you notice excessive movement or flexing in your floor, ceramic tile may not be ideal for your situation. Underlayments can be used to strengthen isolated weak spots in your floor. Please follow your estimator's recommendation regarding this issue. Guy's Floor Service is not licensed or able to fix dips or peaks in your sub-floor or wall. Unless noted specifically on your proposal, you should expect them to remain the same after your new floor or wall tile is installed. GETTING READY FOR US: Please move anything not specifically listed on your proposal from the area that we will be working in. Items such as pictures, food, clothing etc., may be damaged during installation. Check with your estimator on questionable items. GROUT AND CAULKING: Grout and caulking are subject to movement in the surfaces around them as well as age and staining. Therefore, these are considered maintenance items. Be sure to have the installer leave some grout so that you can touch up any cracks that may occur due to movement or settling in your floors. Just mix the grout with water to the consistency of putty, then rub into cracks. Allow a few minutes to dry, then wipe the surface clean. Caulking can be purchased at most hardware stores. Follow the directions on the tube. SEALERS: Guy's Floor Service does not recommend grout-sealers. We do not feel they prevent staining and may accelerate the natural darkening process that occurs in grouts. DRYING TIME: Ceramic tile and grout require 24 hours to dry before traffic is allowed on the new floor. Walking on ceramic tile or grout within the 24 hour time period will affect the strength of your installation. Be sure to direct all traffic away from freshly installed ceramic tile or grout. Wall tile on counter tops or in a tub or shower enclosure should also have 24 hours to dry before using. TOUCH UPS: Guy's has a reputation for taking extreme care of the surrounding walls, wall coverings and trim. However, damage is sometimes unavoidable so please be prepared to touch up paint, wall coverings or trim after your tile installation. SHADING VARIATIONS: Shade variation as well as variation in size, shape and thickness should be expected in ceramic tile because of variables in raw materials and in manufacturing condition. |
